Why Apple Maps ignores a Waze link
iPhones hand waze.com links to the Waze app if it's installed, and to Safari if it isn't. Apple Maps is never offered, because the link isn't an Apple Maps URL. So an Apple Maps loyalist receiving a Waze link sees a web map they can't route from, especially in the car.
JamShare takes the coordinates Waze put in the link and offers them to Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze, whichever the recipient taps.
Same coordinates, different app. That's all a map link conversion really is.
CarPlay and the car
Once the place opens in Apple Maps, CarPlay shows it like any other destination: tap Go and the car's screen takes over. That's the reason this direction matters: Waze is popular with drivers, but plenty of iPhone owners live in Apple Maps and CarPlay.
Does the business name survive?
Usually. Waze links include the place name when the destination was a saved place or a search result; JamShare passes it along as the title. For a dropped pin, Apple Maps shows the nearest address instead.
