2GIS is the go-to map in Kazakhstan, much of Russia and Central Asia, and a favorite in Dubai. Its links don't mean much to anyone outside it.
Why 2GIS links don't open in Google Maps
A 2GIS share link (go.2gis.com/…) opens the 2GIS app or the 2GIS website. Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze can't read it, so a visitor or a friend abroad copies the business name into their own app and searches, often in another alphabet.
JamShare follows the 2GIS link to the real place. Business, building, metro stop or dropped pin, it comes through with its name and exact coordinates, and opens in the app the recipient taps.
2GIS knows every entrance in Almaty. JamShare just gets that pin into your friend's app.
Which 2GIS links work
Short go.2gis.com links and full links from 2gis.ru, 2gis.kz, 2gis.ae and the other 2GIS sites all work, including businesses inside malls and transit stops. 2GIS routes keep their stops and open in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Yandex Maps; see sharing a route.
Going the other way, JamShare links offer a 2GIS button for places in the countries 2GIS covers, like Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and the UAE.
What each option does for a Google Maps user
| Method | Opens in Google Maps | Keeps the exact place | Extra steps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Send the 2GIS link as is | No, 2GIS website | Yes | Copy the name, search again |
| Copy the address | No | Often not | Retype, maybe in another alphabet |
| JamShare universal link | Yes | Yes | None |
