Why Apple Maps links don't open on Android
There is no Apple Maps app on Android, so a maps.apple.com link opens a web page. Apple's web map is fine for looking, but there's no navigate button that hands off to Google Maps, and the newer maps.apple/p/… short links carry a place ID rather than an address, so even copy-paste is awkward.
The reverse problem (Google Maps links opening in Safari on iPhone) is covered on the Google Maps to Apple Maps page.
Mixed iPhone and Android group chats are where map links die. One link fixes the whole thread.
Reviews, photos and Street View
JamShare hands Google Maps the place itself, so once it opens the recipient sees Google's own reviews, photos and Street View for that location, not Apple's. Nothing is lost in the conversion except the app you started in.
What each option does for an Android user
| Method | Opens in Google Maps | Keeps the exact place | Extra steps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Send the Apple Maps link as is | No, web page | Yes, as a pin | Copy the address, search again |
| Type the address | No | Often not | Retype, risk the wrong branch |
| JamShare universal link | Yes | Yes | None |
